piston slap
 

Is this true about GM, that vehicles from 1999 to present has or will have a piston slap sooner or later and GM is aware oc it and suposed to fix dat issue in 2002 and alot of manufactures say that its normal and will shy you away... Whats up wit dat.

Yep, it is well known and some do it alot more then others. Not noted for causing any damage, just happens from the short piston skirt.

When the 5.3 came out GM replaced a large number of them because customers brought them back not liking the noise. It was found to not be a problem and has no effect on longevity-in fact I snagged one of them myself.

Same here..mine has had it since it got it with 130k on it.. it now has 202k and still runs just as strong.. i would like it if it didnt do it but like many others i have put up with it.. atleast until i build my 6.0

Yep, people are afraid of " mechanical noises" .

Most of these issues with piston slap will go away once the engine has reached operating temp.

Nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys.... My daughter was irratated wit Da noise. so u guys know women and irritation. Lol... But cant take it back now cuz its in another vehicle.... So that means a rebuild.. Yaay. @least I know that the rebuild will have all gud stuff in it... Once again much appreciated

Please learn to type like you have received some form of education

From what I have read piston slap is from an out of round cylinder and a perfectly round piston
A slight over bore with the rebuild and it should go away

I call GM piston slap, "the SOUND of POWER!!"

It should go away once the engine warms up a bit. I'd only be worried about it if the noise happened with the engine at normal temp. Otherwise, boost it or spray it til it dies!!

Mine has it pretty bad, goes away in about 20-30 seconds. 101k miles so far.

my 02 8100 scared me sometimes from that sound.
