Default Open header problem

Hey guys, I just put a set of pacesetter lt's on my truck and at the moment, I don't have anything to put behind it. I don't think I'm going to hurt the engine by running open headers right? I do have a concern tho. I took it for a short drive tonight and I couldn't even get up to 30 mph. It started popping and snapping. Acting like it was missing on some of the cylinders. So I checked all the plug wires and they were fine. I also did a search on here and saw that your supposed to leave the front o2 sensors unplugged. Main question is, would the o2 sensors being plugged in, make it run that bad? Thanks. Tim

Do you have them plugged in and are they just set aside like this?

front O2's should be plugged in, and you should have the rear O2's unplugged, and have the code tuned out later.

did you remove your spark plugs or wires? if so, you might not have pushed the wires into the coil all the way, you've gotta push em pretty hard sometimes.

the O2s might sense a false lean condition and cause it to run really rich. that would cause the popping and stuff.

I'd say leave the 02s plugged because its the rears that are after cat and with them breathing just clean 02 u would be better off then them thinking the truck is too rich and trying to lean it out or something? I'd get it tuned out asap.
BTW u have those headers for sale still? and do they still rub?

The rear O2's just tell the PCM whether or not the cats are working properly. The front ones tell the rich/lean condition. With open headers, the O2 sensors will see too much oxygen and richen everything up a ton, which will cause problems like the OP stated above.

ooo, ok my misunderstanding. I thought just the secondaries seeing pure oxygen would cause richness. my mistake
