Clogging is really a secondary effect. The cause is extra fuel, oil, or additives that are not burning. When this stuff hits the catalytic converter element it burns. That's what the cats are supposed to do. If there is too much it can overheat the elements and make them distort. Distortion combined with deposits can block the tiny passages.

My one cat plugged up on the weekend https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=362099 , I think it was getting clogged for awhile. You will notice it losing power in the upper rpm, then once it gets real bad you lose all power and it will ping like crazy.

I have my cats gutted now, and it is loud as hell. I have the short magnaflow muffler, with pipes in front of the rear tire. I'm planning on welding in some new cats this weekend, because it is way way too loud.

When you gut the cats it will be loud even with the magnaflow.
