Default Ngk tr6 plugs

I went to the local parts store my cousin works at to get the spark plugs a few guys on here recommended, and when I asked for them he cut me a good deal. $1.75 a plug compared to $3.99 at another parts store. Anyways he told me OUR trucks take platinum plugs "only" and he didnt understand why we were using tr6.

The part number is 4177.

any info on this?

the stock plugs are platinum but you can run anything you want. tr6's are good for what you are doing. they wont last 100k miles like the stock ones are suppose to.

around here those plugs sell for under $2ea.

GM has switched to a new plug that they reccomend when replacing the Platinum ones. They have an Iridium tip that comes pre gaped at .040 . They are AC Delco number 41-985. My truck started missing bad and when I pulled the plugs the tips had crap on every electrode.

I never trust what the "Local Parts Store" guys tell me, unless they are truely a performance shop. All the chain stores around where I live are run by pimple faced high school kids or parolees on work release. They don't know much about performance parts, and the little they do know is what the computer at the store tells them is a direct replacement.

isn't that the damn truth. when goin to get my tr6's the guy just kept telling me over and over "the computer says you need tr55s". when i tried to explain to him that i needed tr6s because i was going to run nitrous and needed a colder plug to prevent detonation, his face turned to the blankest most confused faced i'd ever seen in my life finally the manager came out (ohhhh someone smart enough to look stuff up by the part number instead of the vehicle!) and got my plugs. 40 minutes and 1 headache later i had what i needed.
