Default Next round of mods?

Current mods in sig... not sure what I want to do next. I figured that I would bounce a few ideas off of the forum.

I currently have 1.75" primary headers, considering a swap to 1.875". Stock 317s on the truck now, thinking of a mild port job with stock valves, or picking up some 799/243 castings and having mild port work. Still rocking the stock TQ converter, no cam surge or anything like that, but might upgrade.

My goal is to keep the current drivability - which is great, and retain the ability to tow with it. I have an 18' open trailer and usually tow a vehicle that weighs 3500-4500 lbs + the weight of the trailer... 1700-ish lbs.

I ordered a TruCool 40K and install kit recently, that will be installed ASAP.

Low end grunt and power under the curve is my main priority, rather than peak numbers.

ARH makes 2" headers. They are not on the site so you'll have to call and talk to Steve about them.

A good low end cam is what you need. Like Vinci tow stick.

Why 2" for an LQ4? My current cam already makes good power down low, not changing it.

I would stick with the heads you have and do a mild clean up and a mill for a slight bump in compression. I would stay with the 1 3/4 for the low end grunt.

I can only imagine a bump in compresion will help magnify it.

I am simply mentioning that there is a 2" option out there. Alot of people don't know there is a 2" header for our trucks out there/available.

I was thinking along the same line of thought on the headers. But, figured rather than mill my 317s, just get the 243/799s with smaller chambers.

Essentially they are the same heads except for the chambers. So I'd ay what ever is cheapest for you got that route. As stated I'd stick with 1 3/4 headers as you won't etc much more going a little bigger for the cost over HP. If it's just a DD and not a full blown race truck I dont see the point, and spend your money else where. If you dont havea converter maybe it is an option for you. Personally a converter I think would would be a good upgrade for you.

Instead of stock valves...2.02/1.6 stainless? Figure if you're going that far with the heads off may as well do a little more...

Revisiting this... just picked up a rebuilt 05' LQ9. Has the good factory rods. Also has PAC 918s, ti retainers, hardened pushrods, LS7 lifters, & a 224/232 .581/.595 114 LSA cam.

Considering swapping it into my truck with 1.875" Speed Engineering headers and a $550 Circle D 278mm 3000- 3200 stall. Hoping it would be worth my effort. Best pull with the current set up is 349/384 on 87. I'd like to see 380/400 minimum with the LQ9. I'd like to break into the 12s on an 18" drag radial and still be daily driveable. Truck weighs about 4500 without me.

If I go this route, I'll be picking up something else to tow with.
