New Stuff for the Tahoe

I just ordered a TR220 cam kit with springs and pushrods, LPP long tubes and Y pipe and a 3000-3200 stall from Circle D. :burn:

I plan to put it all together at the same time. I need a cam installation kit (gaskets and stuff), a valve spring compressor and a tranny jack. I'll tune it when I'm done.

Any suggestions on favorite tools, good deals or tuning tips for these mods are welcome and appreciated. :chug:

Do you have a 6.0 or a 5.3? Not sure what came in those. The only gaskets you should need are the water pump.

Its a 5.3. I could have probably found a 6.0 for what all of this stuff is going to end up costing but then I would just want to do all this stuff to that motor but I'd be out of money.

That's a pretty big cam for a 5.3 in a heavy Tahoe, where you need bottom end torque.

well that is a big stall and he has 4.30's, that'll help.

Those will make a huge difference. Might make a great combo. I've got about the same setup in my 6.0, and it has incredible torque right off the line.

:nod:tr220 is a proven cam. with those gears and that stall he will be fine

That's what I was hoping to hear! I wanted to be close to too much but I read a lot of threads before I decided on this stuff. I've also learned that my fuel mileage is going to head south.

Now, anybody got any tools I can borrow or buy? Where should I get my gasket kit for the cam install?

All you need are water pump gaskets, LINK , LINK. The valve cover and front cover gaskets should not need replaced. Here are detailed step-by-step instuctions, LINK.

gonna be ordering my stuff here soon as well..i think im goin 228 on the cam as I talked to Zippy and he said with a 6.0 in his tahoe it was a great combo..

so all you need is the water pump gaskets? Then springs, cam, maybe new retainers...

then big things are make sure the cam and crank are lined up perfect, make sure everything is torqued..

what was the most common method for holding the valves up during the spring change?
