Well hell. Today I got my UPD intake via UPS and I install it. Took a while to get it lined up perfect and wound up reusing the stock bellows tube instead of the fernco they sent. It was a bitch to get it over the tb also. I used soap on the tb seal and it still took about an hour to install the whole unit. Anyway happy with how that came out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . Went to start up truck and the alternator bearings are screaming bloody murder <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> . It still charges fine but the bearings are shot. This is not my daily driver thank god. I only have about 23,000 miles on it. I think when I went to the beach and driving through the saltwater finally took its toll. Took the alternator apart to see if I can just get the bearings but no go (inside was full of corrosion) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> . Gm will only sell you a reman and Napa does not sell the bearings seperate <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> . I got a lifetime warranty unit from Napa coming tomorrow. I thought I got all the salt off when I came back from the beach but it goes to show you that you can't get to everything.

installing the upd with soap is a BITCH... i installed a friends and we used baby oil, worked pretty good.... vasaline worked on another too...
i just know the soap is hard to do....

quick questino on the alt.. im plannig on polishing mine and is it hard to take apart, hard to put back together or will **** fly when it comes apart?

I just spit out my coffee over that last one. The alternator comes apart with a little effort. It has external torx screws and the bushing holder does not have an access hole like the old delco-remy alts (to hold the bushings in while assembling). Had to have a third hand hold the bushings in while I put the case back together. It will be in your best interest to have air tools to remove the front pully otherwise that bitch ain't gonna budge.
