Need help with motor noise!

The truck just got heads and a cam, it is a RCSB 4.8 with a 5 speed. Still waiting to get it tuned and I am having a hard time pin pointing the noise it is making because it is open headers. Curious if anyone has some suggestions as to what the noise might be or if I’m just loosing my mind.

I can't hear anything over the loud exhaust.

x2, very difficult to tell with open headers....what kinda noise are you hearing?

I am having a hard time trying to describe it, but if you separate the exhaust noise you can hear a hollow knock type noise. I hate to call it a knock because it does not sound all that serious but a I am still stumped. It’s a higher pitch then the low thump of the headers

Get some exhaust on there and you'll be able to hear everything better. No sense in trying to diag a problem when it's extremely loud and you can't pinpoint any sounds.

Haha yes definitely a good idea, I just don’t want a valve hanging open or the piston to hit the valve

that hollow sound comes from the open headers itself, if you want to try and make sure its not a knock, cut a piece of water hose about three feet. put one side to your ear and the other end just guide it around the bottom of the engine. it allows you to hear any abnormal sound more distinctly. kinda a old mexican way that ive done it lol. it helps locating the sound.

All I hear is exhaust. Lol

Yeah I know it’s tough with the exhaust, but it almost sounds like a suction cup in the video

That hollow noise is due to the open headers bud.
I know what noise youre talking about because my buddy once had the same bright idea to run open headers, and it sounded terrible at idle.
