Muffller Delete Question

Thinking of doing the muffler delete on my 14 Silverado. What size tubing
do I need to pick up? I have no way to weld the piece in so I will need
to use clamps.
Thanks

My question is WHY in the world would anyone want to such a thing? Is there any benefit other than to make it louder and more obnoxious?

FFDP 12-22-2017 03:14 PM

To make it actually sound good?

It has 3 cat converters and in some trucks a mini resonator and even without the muffler they sound good without drone.

Though you should know that when it goes down into 4 cylinder mode it's not going to sound good without a muffler.

Pipe size is roughly 3in, I think like 2.75 inside diameter.

The reason why is that it is toooo quiet for me. At idle you don't hear it running.
I like the sound of a v8,with all the cats.,muffler, and then resonator it is too
quiet for my liking.
Iam a old school guy,had large v8's all my life since the late 60,s

As stated v4 mode will sound terrible. If you delete the muffler get a tune and shut off the dod.

Wonder if there is anything for me to gain from this? Stock exhaust.

I had also thought about removing my muffler.
My only concern would be during inspection time. I'd be afraid of it failing.
The place I took it to last year said they were going to fail it because the tail pipe was not sticking out further than the body. I had cut off the resonator at the very end of my exhaust to give it a little more grunt (didn't work very well, haha) I ended up welding on an extension and that didn't stick out far enough. They ended up welding a small piece on and charged me $20.

ZO6,

I think it would sound decent without a muffler. And you might even gain a few, especially with the SCer. Nice truck by the way.

I did this to a friends truck, deleted the muffler, left the cats on, left the flapper valve on. Its was actually amazing how good it sounded and it was not loud by any means.

Just get a tube welded in. I did this to mine. It’s loud an I changed to a high flow muffler. Puts it at a happy medium. Also the reply’s on the 4 cyl. mode sounding horrible is questionable. Mine sounds like a little Cummins diesel at low speed driving. I kinda like it.

Toes what muffler did you go with? Do you still have the resonator?
