Default Mass Air Flow Senson... really worth it?

I have an intake, throttle body spacer, Vararam velocity stack, and a Dynomax muffler all installed on my 6.0L 2500HD, but i'm wondering if I am robbing myself of more power by not having a MAF sensor installed. how do they work exactly? any insight?

Don't you have an SES light on all the time without it? You don't really need a MAF but you should have your computer properly tuned to run without it out you may run lean and damage the engine. Also I believe the IAT sensior is in the MAF so I am suprised it runs and idles very well with out these 2 sensors installed. I would suspect the computer is running in closed loop and therefore using only the low octane table also. Short answer is yes you are loosing available power by not having an MAF if it is a stock tuned engine.

you have a MAF on your truck, as for your TB spacer its not giving you any power and i doubt that velocity stack is helping either

sell both to unexpected ppl and try to recover from the lost you spent and put money towards something more use ful

so you're saying i won't get any hp/tq gains by replacing my stock MAF with an aftermarket? i tore off that honeycomb-shield inside my stock MAF, so it's pretty wide-open. i just wasn't sure if my truck's computer was recognizing the increased airflow through the stock MAF.

No and neither will"porting" the MAF and taking out the screen will lean out your a/f ratio. Too late now, but it doesn't really help. I would just buy a stock one and replace it. I don't think this old mod was thought out very well at it's inception.

Get some Long tube headers, and maybe LS6 intake swap, more $$ Heads/cam, Nitrous, Forced induction etc.. really depends on your budget. But have a goal, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AND BUY NEW **** EVERY MONTH because you don't know what direction you're goin. Too many been down that road. Read up on this board, lots of ideas here with alot of experience on what works and what don't.
just my $.02
Peace

Save your money and get Lontube headers and a tune. You already have an intake, so just longtubes and a straight-through exhaust. That dynomax is the ultra flow, right? If you got a "super turbo" get rid of that heap.

leave the MAF alone, people run a stock MAF with high HP set ups. just my 2 cents.
