Thats the best budget and driver friendly cam goin for the 5.3. Add a 3000 converter and it'll really rock. This cam will sign on a lot sooner than the LS6, and it'll make a lot more mid range, I bet it pulls a good amount higher than 5500 too. If I were a betting man I'd say it would feel comfortable with a 6200 shift point.

The 212/218 is also a great option. The power will come on a little sooner with that cam and it will idle a little better as well, but its about $120 more expensive. Small dollars when you really think about it.

 

aright guys the cam you guys suggested is ordered and now i need to get some springs and pushrods...the pushrods have to be hardened ones right? and can you guys tell me what length i would need for that cam?

hardened pushrods are the way to go. 7.4" is the expected length you will need though you need to get a length checker to be 100%. Really like Brian tooley duals. However, PAC beehives are a good budget choice.

 

Man I wish I would have seen that TFS cam, I just bought a 214/222 SLP cam but I would have prefered that TFS cam.

 

Doesnt sound like your cam is that different... i wouldnt sweat the difference.

 

If the heads are untouched meaning not milled and stock height head gaskets 7.4" pushrods will work fine, but like somebody mentioned it is always a good idea to check with a pr length check usually around $20

 

More so sweating the price. Damn I have spent some money this week on this dang truck.

 

That cam will work fine with the stock stall, would a larger stall be better for it yes, but since you are on a budget just deal with the cam first since you already ordered it, then latter down the road get the converter.

IMO I wouldn't install the nnbs intake manifold for the $500 range it cost in manifold and conversion parts, for maybe a 10-15rwhp gain for the loss of some low end power. Especially in a heavy tahoe.....you want all the low end power you can get.

 

I just bought a complete NNBS manifold with Throttle body for $115 shipped. You can find them if you browse ebay and craigslist. From what I have read the larger throttle body doesnt make much difference it is the actual intake manifold that produces the gains so instead of the xlink I am going to buy the throttle body adaptor plate.

i raced a nnbs stock 5.3 and kept up with it pretty good..really impressed me as those trucks would take me by a couple trucks..thanks for the help guys! love this forum
