Default LS1 hydraulic cam 222/232 545/562 116?

Will a LS1 hydraulic cam 222/232 545/562 116 work in my truck (5.3L) and with a stock tune? What kind of performance gains would I see?

You woukdn't be happy with the results on a stock tune. Its just too big.

Are you saying that with a tune, it would work?

It would run on a stock tune, but probably pretty poorly around town, and you'd almost definitely get the SES light.

WITH a tune, it still sounds like it's on the high side for a truck motor. I'm not sure what to think of that 116LSA - I'm not real sure how well it'll tame down the large exhaust duration. It sounds like a big blower cam to me. It'd probably work real well with a centrifigual S/C and a healthy stall.

From what I've been hearing, something like a Thunder Racing TR224 (224/224) on a 114LSA is about as high as you'd go in a manual transmission vehicle on a stock tune.

In the automatic cars and trucks, they're more picky (lower idle speed - more lope) Even the Comp Cam 212/218 on a 114 can throw a 'random missfire' code, which can put the computer into a funny 'limp' mode. It's supposed to be a rather easy fix to turn off, but you either need LS1 Edit at $550, or pay for a shop to do it.

speeking from experience it is too big. i had a 226/226-.591/.591 in my truck and at ran good and hard up top. changed it now and still have a big cam. but i am not setting this truck up to run on motor. so i would say get something smaller unless you realy want it and plan to use some kind of power adder. o and it would run with out a tune but would not be very drivable.
