LQ9 upgrades

Im thinking of adding headers to a LQ9 with a good tune along with adding a weekend warrior cam from BTR that has 212 duration at .050 for around .555 lift. Going to mill the 317's to bring up compression some to act like 243's.

With that cam will it have some lope and thump and what kind of power am I looking at?

400 horse? 400 torque?

If the idle is tuned right, it will have a little bit of lope because it's a smaller camshaft.

It'll probably put down mid 300's at the tire for horsepower.

Sounds like plenty for a daily.

That's a baby cam for 6.0..
I'm running a cam motion 222/232 108 .595 lift. On my bolt on lq9 with 821 heads and 3600 converter,
great power all through the power band.
Are you gonna run a higher stall converter?

DAH32 11-04-2022 07:41 PM

Yeah, I realize that.

I bet yours is real lumpy on that 108.

I will run a Circle D converter or a Trail Blazer converter.

I just want something a little more than stock and keep the ability to tow some.

Look at the @Summitracing SUM-8728R1. Its a 212/218 110+3 with .600/.585 lift. It has a 33* intake valve closing, so should tow really well. With the -5* it'll still lope. With the right tuning could probably get it decently smooth if desired. It'll work with a stock convertor too. Don't go too crazy with stall if you plan to tow anything heavy. Definitely consult Circle D before you choose.

We like what @68Formula is thinking. Our SUM-8728R1 "Big Torkinator" would be a great fit for your combo and goals. You're plan of headers, tuning, and milling the 317's will be a nice added benefit. A nice compression bump will improve power/torque throughout the range. We designed that cam for folks with 6.0's that want a performance bump and a nice idle but still want to tow. You can use the stock converter or a lower stall "towing converter". It makes great torque from 2,000 on up and pulls well to 6,500+ with our .600" lift beehives.

We know our customers like combos so we put together some Pro LS cam combos. There are cam and spring combos or cam, spring and install/gasket kit combos. We like trying to make it easier on folks when doing a cam swap. For all available SUM-8728R1 combos check here.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance. We'll be happy to help.
