LQ4/9 no oil pressure !
I just built with a lot of help a .30 6.0. I'm not getting any oil to top end.
right at the oil filter there is a "oil filter bypass pressure valve", Can anyone tell me what this is for? or if it could be why i'm not getting or holding prime? there is nothing in the hole that that valve goes in. the o'ring on the oil pump has been checked and recheck so just trying to single things out before going back into the oil pan. We have also tapped the oil cooler block off and tried to prime I that way with no luck. any thoughts would be great |
Did you put the little dumb bell plastic piece in the back of the block?
The "dog bone" yes its in there. It was double check by me and the person helping me with the build.
Think there is a plug in the front of the block. Did you make sure that was still in?
I just bought these, going to give the port on side of the block a boost with 4 or 5 quarts. cross your fingers for me. I hope I can get it to hook up to my garden sprayer to pump this POS full.

Both, I haven't run it for more than 30 seconds 3 times and turned it over with starter more than 3 times with no plugs or fuel.
Are the lifters ticking?
no, quiet as a church mouse.. I soaked the lifters and poured oil over top before the start ups and let it sit. i hope it helped.
did you check the o ring on the oil pump pick up to make sure is seated properly or did not tear?
yes, while building it. If it doesn't prime thru the port on the side today I'm going to drop the pan and redouble check it and the front plug.
Do you have any oilcoming through the pushrods with motor running

nope, I pushed 3 quarts thru the oil port on drivers side front last night and still no pressure with plugs out and fuel off. This weekend i'm going to drop the pan and see of something is amis there. When I pushed the oil in and took my oil pumper off, I had oil squirting back out. I had to cover the hole with my finger to until i got the plug back in. If nothing is found in the pan I guess i'll have to yank this thing back out and basically start over. |
It's either that plug in the main oil galley missing then or a cam bearing installed incorrectly and blocking a oiling passage.
oil pan is coming off Sunday, I hope to find out something, if not I guess I'll be taking it out and rebuilding it again.
after firing it up how long should it take oil to show up on gauge and at rockers?
Oil pressure should show on the gauge in about 3-5 seconds.
He got pressure to it today. 40 psi at idle
What did you find?

I pumped oil in the side of the block in the front oil galley port. I pumped 1 full gallon . I fired it up and it ran for about 3 minutes before the oil made it to the top end. I was still having no pressure on the gauge. I went and replaced the oil sending unit for a 4th time and wiggled the wires and walla oil pressure..... I let it idle about 27 minutes then drove it around the block. It seems like its going to be fairly strong combo. I got a check engine light that said ( low temp sensor voltage) or something like that. My temp gauge in truck wasn't working. The plug on the sensor that is in the head is cracked. I have to replace that and I hope my temp gauge starts back working.
This is after 27 minutes and a drive around |
We were just being overly cautious. I wish I could have gotten a mechanical gauge and a chance to come back over...could have had it on the road sooner. Definitely need to take care of that temp sensor and any loose wires if that was the problem with the pressure sensor. Bet the wife was tired of that thing sitting in the driveway, and here she thought it was all my fault :)

Yeah, I still told her it was your fault. j/k no really I did.
Yeah, I need to find a plug to splice where mine got broke. U by chance don't have to old harness with that plug still on it do you? Then my next thing is I hope the fans keep it cool as it should be. if not I guess i'll throw the clutch fan back on it. |
yeah, dog bone and front plug was in. I primed it thru the front and let it run about 3 minutes and all seem good now. now I got to figure my efans out. I have them on a toggle for right now.
