Lq4 6.0 lower end questions

ok, got my lq4 6.0 from the auto parts yard its got 144k miles on it i was told so before I do my swap into my 92 z71 gona freshen it up. Starting on the bottem end and going up. So Im gona put new rod and main bearings in.My question is are the main bolts and rod bolts reusable or are thay the torque to yeild that I will need to replace when I do the bearing change?

Why touch it? If it runs fine then drive it and mod it!!

Miles aint nothin on an LSx engine , seriously, my 04 van with a LQ4 has 227xxx on it and runs sooo strong!

The old 5.3 that i pulled from my Z71 had 183,000 on it and the cylinders still had factory crosshatching on them!!!

The only mods i would do would be replace the lifters if you do a cam, and replace the water pump, oil pump and intake gaskets, then drive it and dont think about the miles!!!!!!!

So what? Same answer applies, unless he really want to spend the money:disgust:

I dont believe the rod bolts are reuseable, i would use some ARP bolts in it.

Im not saying its not a wise thing to be contemplating in his case, but these engines when taken care of are pretty immune to mileage and just take a beating. If its a high dollar budget then i would tare it apart, but really in my honest opinion there is no need, 144xxx aint that bad, the bottom end should be fine, but what year is the engine anyway??

Keep in mind this isnt a dd so no major rush on builld just want to make sure got a strong engine so later on down the road it will hold up to the twin turbos.

The rod and main bolts are reusable, with 144k it would be worth your while to pull the caps to check bearing wear.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Now to start operation on the 6.0

I agree install it and modd it. I had 230,000+ added nitrous for 15+ trips down the strip and never had an issue. Pulled it apart to build my 408 and she looked great inside.

Never a bad idea to freshen it up but there is no reason in my opinion. If you were going to open it up I would stroke it. Since you are planning to go FI then no real reason to stroke it.
