It's pretty common on these trucks. My 5.3 doe not do it while my wife's 4.8 does it slightly when it worms up.

Ni.. it's not a 4.8 thing. I have heard it an many other 5.3 and 6.0. The early 6.0's were the wordt thought.

I listen the sound clip and if your truck makes that kind of noise and it's that loud you are going to have problems down the road. As for the early 6.0 being the worst engine to have piston slap, then I must have an odd ball engine. I have a 99 2500, 6.0L, just clock over 263,000 miles, and it makes no noise at all when I start it up now. However, it did make a little noise in the mornings (went away once the engine got up to operating temperature) a couple months ago, due to lifters leaking down, this was fixed when I replace the stock valve springs (lost spring tension, I could actually fully collapse a few springs with my hands) with a set of LS6 springs.

If this noise started after you got the truck I would look towards a weak valve spring or a lifter. If the noise has been there since mile 1, you might have a piston slap problem, but I would start with the easier problems to fix.
