Looking for help with a decision

I have a 1990 454SS with a TH400 and I'm in the middle of a dilemma. The previous owner put a carb on it, and I want efi and overdrive. Is there any reason to spend the money on an MPFI setup and 4l80e swap over just doing an LS swap? This isn't a daily driver and won't see any track time. I like the torque of the big block. Is it worth giving that up for the LS? Thanks.

Don't you fucking dare do an ls swap on that truck! lol

Keep the rat motor, buy Holley EFI Dominator and a built 4l80e.

Meh.....They made a lot of those trucks lol..... especially the 1990 version.... LS swap that thing and never look back. I have driven them and honestly a Vortec 350 reg cab is about as strong as that thing is stock... even out of the hole. A healthy running 6 liter or larger would make you all but forget about that iron boat anchor in there now.

Correction; they made a LOT of 1990 models. 1991-1993, not so much at all, especially 1992-1993 rare as rocking horse shit.

1990 being a TH400 and the engine having been converted to carb, I say, do whatever with it that floats your boat. Make it fun to drive or it's not worth owning.

Heads, cam and Holley EFI. Don't go LS, I love these engines but if you can't reach your goals with a big block chevy then you're doing something wrong. They're pathetic in stock condition but wake up nicely when you start letting your valves open up :burnout:

I don't really know what you're talking about when you say vortec 350, but if you are referring to the 350 engine that also came in 1990 trucks, you're on crack if you think one will hang with a 454ss truck.

...and if you think a fresh 6.0 would feel more snappy than a 454 you're on meth.

...and if you think they "made a lot of those trucks" (referring to the 1990 454ss) you're on a good "houston cocktail" For those that don't know about the Houston Cocktail it is a proper mix of hydrocodone, carisoprodol, alprazolam.

1990 454SS - 13,748
1991 454SS - 983
1992 454SS - 1379 (in 3 different colors, dunno breakdown of black/red/white)
1993 454SS - 843 (again 3 different colors)

Rip that 1990 up. Dime a dozen. ;) :D

Lay off your drug addiction accusations unless it's a reflection of self. They made lots of 1990 trucks... the TBI 454 is a gutless wonder... and a Vortec 350 that came along in 1996 will hang right with one... yep a 454 with the rpm range of a 12 valve Cummins is a real riot... lol.

1990 454 put down 230/385 through a 3spd
1991 454 was 255/405 4l80

1996 350 put down 355/330 various trans

Seems like the MPFI 350s were a bit of a good motor. All the LS motors would be a HP gain over the 454, albeit with less torque.

Anything TBI was pure shit. Buddy's grandpa had a 454 truck when we were in HS. And we felt like kings driving it around.
