Looking at getting LS1 Long Block, help?

Included- Block, Pistons/Rings/Rods, Crankshaft, Oil pump, Front Cover, Starter, Heads, Entire Valvetrain MINUS rocker arms (cam, pushrods, lifters, trays, etc) Water Pump and Tensioner, Crank Pully.

He's asking $600 obo. Says it has 97,xxx on everything. This price seem like it's about right? He claims that he pulled it from his running car to drop a 402 in it. I'm not concerned about the shape of the heads or cam, as I'll be changing those anyway and if the cam is chewed up I'll run it to a machine shop for new bearings and a hone.

Should I have any real concerns, other than the usual when buying a used motor? Most of the accessories I'll pull off of my 5.3 to keep down on cost.

With the pics he sent me, crosshatch looks great, as does the crank.

Nice buy!

I would go with a 220 or 224 cam

jrmchevyman 02-19-2012 03:26 PM

I would have bought it for that too, if I had the money at the time. I have seen them go around here for the same price.

For an off the shelf cam a 220 or 224 like stated would be good. Or a custom 22x/22x like a 222/22x, 220/22x, etc..

I like ls1 motors, kinda glad you did that instead of going to the 6.0 like 95% of the guys.phump
