intercooler for whipple?
 

anyone working on this? it seems like if you want to go past the stock whipple set up some kind of intake charge cooling should be in the plan.

i heard something about propane injection, then there is the water/alkey injection, or small shot of nitrous for a little boost and cooling might be ok for the track. i still like the intercooler idea the best.

it seems like with electric fans some room would be avaliable right where you need it. then maybe a stock intercooler from a duramax might just bolt in up front, then remount the whipple over about 6" to the pasenger side, run some tubing, make a custom intake set up that just does a 90 and runs right next to the fender where the overflow is. are there any tuning issues to adding an intercooler? seems like once it is all ducted it making more power should be easy, add a little boost or a little timing.

The propane injection is only for desiel motors to my knowledge. As for the water/alc. approach. i don't know much about it.... But for some reason, putting some water in my motor for any reason doesn't seem to make me feel too good.

I would go with a small N2O shot, or work out an intercooler setup. You might be able to market something like and intercooler for a whipple as well.

Does anyone have some diagrams or install intructions they could e-mail me on the whipple. i am curious as to how an intercooler could be fit into a late model GM truck.

i thought the same thing about the propane but someone is talking about it over in the forced induction area, they didn't realy say how it works. i did see a kit that someone was selling for the stealth/30000gt twin turbo set ups but it also doesn't say how it works.

look at the recent post by big tex about injector upgrade, it has a prety good pic of where the intercooler would need to be spliced in. in that pic you can see where the old throtle body used to sit, now there is a sharp 90 that turns under and into the whipple, i think if the whipple was moved over about 6" then you could come off of those ducts and turn them down in front of the engine into a bag ass intercooler <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> , i am sure it would be alot of cash and alot of work, it would be a prety cool set up though.

I wasn't able to get much of an idea from that picture.....Buttell me this.

Does the charged air exit the whipple from (circle) like port and the hose clamps on from there and enters into the intake thru the 90 deg.?
Also if so does this air outlet from the whipple only come on the side?

I had the idea that it had a desing like most other screw type chargers where the air would exit thru the bottom of the charger and next down into some duct work and then make its way into the motor.
If this was the case then a different bottom could be used to mount onto the housing of the blower and the air would pass thru it first and then make its way into the motor. That would be the best/easiest way that I could see.

Otherwise, going by what you mentioned and by what I could tell from the picture...this is not the case. Instead a braqcket would need to be made to move the blower out and then route the duct down towards the bumper/skid plate and have it run thru a intercooler and then back up like you mentioned.

Heres a plan. Find a good heater core that is the proper size for whatever is needed for the whipple and the room available with electric fans. Then get a housing made for it that would look something like 1 rectangular funnel on each end of the core. That would give you the mounting spots for the hoses and allow it to have a single pass thru the core.
Now the trick part......run the two lines for the heater coreinto your A/C system. that way you will have the freon(sp) from the A/C running thru your intercooler and with only one pass thru the core it should drop the temp. drastically.

I wish I had a whipple on my truck. Cause I would damn sure make this and then try to market it to the best of my abilities. Anyone out there feel free to use this idea and modify it some. i am curious as to how a setup like this could work.

I think somebody made a setup with the A/C like your talking about for the Syclones/Typhoons. It was called the intra-cooler or something like that.

that idea has been looked at before, the most efficient way to cool the intake charge is an air to air intercooler, a water to air is close to what you are talking about but it is not as eficient, it can be more eficient if you want to fill the system up with ice water but that will only work for one run. if you can get your idea to work i am sure there are a few people that would pay for the product.

i am going to try something new here, going to try and post a pic or two of the whipple set up. out of the bottom of the whipple is a large fiting that turns out to the drivers side, it is about a 3" round tube, then a small hose into another 3"round tube fiting that truns a 90 into the engine, the piece on the ingine could be made easily to point any direction but the piece on the whipple has the bypass tube integrated into it and would be hard to point anyplace else. let me try and post these pics
