Intake, headers, exhaust, cam, tune...
 

I hope I don't make this too long or complicated. Ill try to keep it as simple as possible.

Vehicle: 4x4 2010 Silverado Gen IV 5.3l Z71 DAILY DRIVER

I want to do a cold air intake, headers, exhaust, cam, and a custom tune.

1. I want to go with Speed Engineering headers. Should I get them alone or with their y-pipe combo?

2. What would I have to do to my overall exhaust to fit the headers? Keep or discard o2 sensors/cats/etc? Dont want it annoyingly loud its my daily driver.

3. Cam... have read through the sticky "cam guide" but still cant decide what cam would be best for a daily driver and the other supporting mods Ive mentioned.

4. A cam sounds like a great idea but whats a realistic idea of how much work it takes to install one?

5. Do I NEED and or WANT new push-rods/rockers if I install a cam?

These are all the questions I'll ask for now. Thank you in advance.

With a cam swap, do you want to keep DoD or remove it?

If you remove it, add more parts to your buy list. You'll need a DoD delete kit, new pushods, lifters, head gaskets, head bolts, lifter trays, cam gear, front cover and more. You don't have to change rockers.


You'll want/have to leave the o2 sensors, but you can run a catless exhaust. Just know that without cats the exhaust will get really raspy and you'll want either a 2nd muffler or a resonator to keep the drone/rasp down.

Intakes are meh, they cost too much for no big gains. Buy a airaid intake tube and call it a day.

"Displacement on demand" or am I mistaken? Do I need to do the delete for a larger cam or is it an option, are there large benefits to doing so?

That gives me a much better idea on the exhaust and intake setup, thank you!

The dod lifters are problematic, you need to decide if you want to keep it or not.... I plan to delete mine in my yukon when it goes out.... Along with the vvt unless i can find a decent cam that will keep vvt... And yes dod is displacement on demand that cuts out four cylinders under light loads....id say if youre planning on mods and cam probably be best to get rid of it, unless you just really wanna keep it, something about all that work to only have 4 cylinders do anything... Personally dont see the actual mpg saving of it....
