Default Indiana Engine Swap Help

I'd like to eventually swap out the 5.3 in my truck for something else, but I've heard that legally it has to be something the same model year or newer. I've poked around the internet but couldn't find anything on the Indiana BMV site or anywhere else. Does anyone know if there are any such regulations? I want to do an m6 conversion as well, and finding a solid engine/trans combo would take some of the guesswork out of it form me I think.

A 5.3, 6.0 or even a 408 will look identical so if ther cam is mild nobody will know whats under the hood isn't factory.

Besides like 2or3 counties their is no emissions testing so you could throw whatever you can think of and want in there and pretty much be legal imo. Now when talking what an insurance company would cover, that is another story..

I'm in one of those counties (Lake) but they just plug into the computer for a sec to make sure there's no codes, so I assume as long as that's good I'm fine. My other truck has a healthy rumble and they didn't think hard at all about passing it...

Thanks guys.

You have nothing to worry about, your tuner will adjust your PCM as neccessary and when they plug into your computer it will read out as stock with no differences. Swap away and have fun.
