If you have AFM keep up with your oil changes and viscosity

Just finished a course on GM Powertrain Perfomance 2003 to 2008. The instructor mentioned how important it is for AFM engines to have clean oil and also have the correct viscosity. This is important for any engine, but even more so for AFM because of the small passages the oil must pass through(in the AFM lifters and their associated solenoids). Not only must the oil be free of debris, but it must be a light viscosity to flow properly. The AFM system is so fast GM says it is transparent to the driver. That means the lifters have to pump up and bled down so fast you can't feel it as it switches back and forth between AFM mode and normal mode. If you have AFM keep your oil changed and use the right viscosity(it's posted on the filler cap).

I just bought an 08 with the AFM. After a break in period (say after 2nd oil change or whenever recommended) will switching to a pure synthetic effect the engine? I used Royal Purple in my 04 and really liked it.

I'd stick to Mobil 1 synthetic. Royal Purple is for the mustangs and ricers :p

You'll be fine with switching to synthetic, just use the recommended viscosity.

See, now I am confused, I thought all ricers did was put the go fast stickers on their cars an not do anything that actually helps the engine.........

:werd: ricers dont touch the engine other than adding flourescent wireloom and an intake.
