How to fill transfercase?

Okay...laughing aside, the fill plug is about 4" above and to the right of the drain plug on an Autotrac case right?

Well I can't seem to get more than about half a quart in the transfer case.

Is there some trick to filling the case up? Maybe a fill hole elsewhere?

Thanks!

Go get a pump from an auto parts store. They make one that fits right on a quart bottle.

i use a nozle from a gear lube bottle and just put it on the tranny oil bottle, stick it in the hole and squeeze. when the oil starts running out it is full.

I have a gear oil filler on there, I squirt it in and just goes everywhere...

Is there a vent tube that maybe plugged?

if you stick that gear filler tip on there and it comes right back out it must be full, can you look in there with a flashlight?

Re: How to fill transfercase?

I know it is not full as I drained 2 qts out and only could get 1/2 of a qt in. The only thing I can think of I must not be getting it completly in the hole...like I am hitting the side of the hole with the fluid and that is why it keeps coming out. I did peep inside with a flashlight and could barely see in there.

I have decided to just say screw it, and get the trans place to finish filling it up along with installing the servos. I can't drive it anyway right now.

Anyway, thanks for you help man...I appreciate it! :)

Try looking in there with a flashlight and a mirror. Maybe there is a gear or something right in front of the fill hole. Maybe if you hold the hose at a different angle it will help keep it from running back out. I just put a gear oil top on the transfer case fluid bottle and filled mine that way. It was a bit awkward but it worked. I think that I had a short piece of clear hose on the end of the gear oil top as well but maybe that was for the front diff which was even harder to fill if I remember correctly.
