Header Install question
 

I finally got around to installing the ASM headers and was just wondering if anyone out there know if the dipstick housing has an o-ring on it. I reseated it but it seems loose to me. How far do I have to reseat it?

hmm... i usually just put it back in there. I have never noticed an o-ring or anything, but i have never gotten down there to look. I've taken it off and put it back on 3 - 4 times without any problems

Thanks for the reply! When you reseat it does it "click" in like when you put a socket on a ratchet or just drop straight into the hole? Just wanna make sure before I take any long trips.

i dont remember a click. look at it this way... if its in the hole and you can line it up with the hole up by your spark plugs on the block its on there correct <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Don't remember there being any o-ring, it just kind of goes back in.

Let me know how if feels when you get the new headers running. Did you do your own welding or have it done at a shop?

Yes there is an O ring and it should be noticable when it reseats.

If its like any other chevy block, there is a little flange at the bottom of the dipstick housing about an inch or two up. Put some pliers around the housing above this flange and hit the pliers with a hammer to push it back into the block all of the way. (never taken mine out b4, but it's like this on all last previous generation blocks) good luck <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

There is an o-ring??? I guess I better go out and buy one.

IslandTahoe - I installed the headers myself and it took 7 hours! I had to take breaks because I was getting nauseous working lying down <img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" /> . I had a little trouble getting the passenger side on because of the heat shield and some brackets blocking the way. Other than that it was pretty straight forward. It now feels much better. I can feel a definite improvement in performance. I think it makes everything breathe easier and flow better. Also like Fast4.8 said it made things quieter! Must be the thicker metal. I had to have my exhaust pipes modified (after driver side cat and before muffler) because there was not enough room to weld the cat flanges on. The welding was done by Exhaust Systems Hawaii.
