Default Gutted my cats....

I went down to Tucson to have desTRUCKtive help me with the cat tuning....we gutted the cats while I was there to get it to throw the codes. First, we had a bitch of a time getting the header collector bolts off so we could drop the Y-pipe. I don't know what the hell ASM was thinking using a 12-point bolt on one side, but they were a bitch to get off. Then....the gaskets broke and fell out, and they were paper. Cheap asses. We had to go to Autozone and I got some nice aluminum gaskets and new bolts that were hex head on both sides. Finally we got the y-pipe off, and for 100K miles on my truck, 65K of those with the Radix, the cats looked brand new! Neither of us could believe it. We had a fantastic time trying to get all of the cat-junk out. After getting everything together we went for a ride, no codes! I was wondering if PCMFORLESS has a habit of turning off the cat codes on their tunes. I didn't ask for them to be turned off, but when desTRUCKtive went into HPT, the Cat Over-Temp protection was already turned off. Anyway, I drove all the way from from Tucson to Phoenix and never threw a code, so I'm assuming it was all turned off before anyway.

Damn!! The ASM headers with gutted cats and Corsa is freaking loud! I have almost no resonance inside the cab, just a tiny bit more than before, but with the windows up I can barely hear it. I can't believe how bad-*** it sounds. Anyway, thanks Beto for all your help!!

I temporarily removed mine after a header install. It took it a few days before it threw the code. Give it time. When I added high flow cats, the code turned off after a couple of weeks.

it sure sounds different with no cats.... when I took my cats off last month it really made the borla sound different with very little resonance inside...

hey thnder550 can you get us a sound clip? I'm wondering if mine will sound good when I install me pacesetter longtubes and ory pipe in a few weeks? I too have Corsa sport exhaust. What does your truck sound like now (f-body, ferrari, etc???) from what I've been told it will sound like a combo of those two.

I'll see what I can do....may take a couple days. I don't really know how to describe it really, it's really deep and gurgly, but a little raspy, and really really loud.

Beto said you were washing your hair! Sorry! Actually...I thought it was gonna be a quick change in HPT then I would gut the cats on my own this weekend, then Beto was like "you wanna gut em while you're here?" So we started....wasn't really in the plans. I may come down this weekend though if Beto starts working on his stuff. Will make sure to call you, if you're not already there.

So....truck feels stronger today than it did last night. I read some comments before about how removing the cats would make it run richer. Is this something like a new tune where it will take a bunch of miles for the computer to make adjustments and start to feel a big difference, or am I just imagning things?

It's realy loud with no muffler. I don't want to think about pulling the camper before getting a muffler. I would get pulled over for sure. But sure sounds badass at WOT

You can hear mine pretty good in the begining of the video but then the raspiness of my friends LT1 takes over.

This is with AS&Ms, gutted cats and a Magnaflow muffler on stock piping.
