Good setup for DD?

I'm new to these engines because I just bought my 03 silverado. I'm wanting to get some power/sound out of her yet still have it be a good DD. I've searched a lot and received a lot of information but would like some responses first hand. Here's the list so far, I'm not wanting to do tooo much, just some minor stuff.
Bolt ons before cam/etc...:
-Edelbrock shorty headers (I want long-tubes but not sure what I can get as far as smog legal in CA.)
-True duals with magnaflows/x-pipe custom by muffler shop
-S&B CAI
All the rest of these would be done on one shot
-TR Cam(220/220 .551/.551 114) What's the difference from 114 to 112? Do I need new valve springs with this cam?
-Yank 3000 converter
-HD2 shift kit
-B&M trans cooler
-And a Nelson tune
Any advice/changes for the better? The first 3 mods I'll being doing right away, one by one. Then probably early next year get the rest done by a good shop.
TIA, Jonathon

you'll need Comp 918 valve springs for that cam

id suggest getting 4.10 gears and a posi (detroit trutrac IMO)

sounds like a good combo

Thanks! I thought I needed those valve springs. I was reading about other guys using them. The truck is 4x4 w/ 3.73 gears. I do a lot of highway driving, would the 4.10 affect gas mileage compared to what I have now? I do/will need posi :hail: If I did take it to the track occasionally I can just run it in 4Hi right? Expecting maybe 14's with those mods? I'm not looking to race it though, just a powerful/good sounding DD.

since you already have 3.73s its not worth it IMO to spend around $1k on a gear and posi swap (have to swap front and rear) just get a trutrac in the rear and you'll be good to go

yes run in 4hi at the track

reg cab , ext cab, or crew cab

Are these the right valve springs? http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
Thanks

I thought the 3.73 were ok. I plan on doing 4.56 if I eventually get a cognito lift with 37's or 38's....but thats a longggg ways away. My truck is an ext cab long bed. I'm going to look into that trutrac posi unit. Pretty reliable and strong?

nightrunner 12-03-2006 04:35 PM

yes, good posi unit, i havent heard of one breaking yet

some of the eaton posi's are wearing out as the have clutches the trutrac doesnot and therefore has nothing to wear out

nightrunner 12-03-2006 04:36 PM

and yes those are the correct valve springs

jons03 12-03-2006 04:38 PM

Thanks, I'm going read up on it. Not sure as to what rearend I have though. HMM, I'll have to figure that out. You think 14's would be reasonable with a good tune?

BTW- Very fast responses!!! :hail:

I'm probably the first choice as 12-bolt with 3.73's.
