Default Gonna build my own exhaust, need some help....

Truck is a 98 1/2 ton 5.7 Vortec 2wd

I am looking to put an exhaust on it and want to just build it myself. I've been tossing around ideas and just don't know which route to go. The truck is going to remain stock except for some bolt ons so I don't need a 4" dual exhaust capable of 800 HP.

I have thought about just doing a 3" single outlet system coming out in the factory location. Eventually I am going to put LT's on the truck but for now I am just going to do a "catback".

Would a single exit 3" into a single in/out 22" Magnaflow drone at all? I don't want anything that I can't stand on the highway. And once I do LT's, should I keep some high flow cats on it or would I be ok with leaving them off with the same exhaust system?

If your not looking to speed all that much, then I would go with some pacesetter & an ORY y-pipe. I'm pretty sure it would bolt right up to catback system when you added the headers. If you run the tail pipe out behind the rear tire you shouldn't have any drone. It might "drone" if you have no tail pipes coming off the muffler or just dumped right after the muffler.

exhaust system

If you don't want to get annoyed on the highway work on the drone right from the start. Good luck!

I have a mostly stock '05 5.3 with a 3-inch SI/SO Magnaflow (#12589) welded in the stock location. It is quiet while cruising, and aggressive on WOT. No drone while cruising, and minimal drone while accelerating.

I do NOT have LT headers, and I've heard that those make most exhaust much louder. The ONLY exhaust system that is guaranteed to NOT drone regardless of modifications is Corsa.

IF you completely remove the cats, your exhaust WILL DRONE and be crazy loud on almost any setup...except Corsa.
