Unhappy FLP 5 thread

for those wandering where the 1st flp5 thread went

I deleted it

reason being

I reread it and to me
it came across like I was trying to spread bad word
about FLP
when honestly this wasnt my intent
my intent was to share with everyone something
extreme and out of the ordinary had happened

this was posted before I had all the information
to explain what happened
Hell, I still dont know for sure
and to be honest
I screwed up by even posting it
I guess i should work on my communication skills
I guess thats what happens when I open
my mouth before I think about what Im gonna say

my apologies goes out to Chuck and FLP
for any grief Ive caused
you guys have been nothing but helpful to me

for those that are clueless on the post

basically something caused my new transmission to break
Possibly caused by a wrong sized converter and having to use washers
to maintain proper clearance

we won't know the facts until the transmission and torque converter are examined

Thanks for the explanation.

For what it's worth, I didn't read it as you slamming Chuck. The message I read said "I had a problem, I'm bummed, but Chuck is working with me". Fact is I'm a recent Chuck convert after watching him in his shop. My take on it is this....stuff is going to break! It's what happens after it breaks that differentiates one place from another. Everybody can make a mistake, parts suppliers, builders, and anyone in the parts/assembly food chain. All I ask is that they stand behind their product and treat me fairly if something goes wrong. I will blast the guy that tries to rip me but I will also speak up if I have a good experience. Posts here are what steered me to Chuck in the first place. Thanks again!

Exactly right.

It's definately true that Chuck stands behind his product. It's definately true that Chuck's customer service, and dedication to his work can't be beat. Add all that to the truely exceptional work he does...

I for one would not consider another tranny builder at this point. Chuck's earned my business, my repeat business on the next project, and my respect.

I am sending him my dental bills, though. My fillings keep falling out on the 1-2 shift...

Ain't that the truth. I'm goint to wear out my right rear tire pretty quick since I now chirp the 1-2 shift pretty much anywhere but light throttle Sure is more fun to drive! Now, if I could just muster up the $$ for a 6.0 and/or blower.....

I dont think that post came off wrong. There is a bad part in every bunch, and i happened to be in yours. The best Chuck can do is keep building to specs, and when something like this happend take care of it. Which I know he will do. I think it was a good post because breaking a Level 5 is very hard to do, and with a little bad luck it happened to you. LOL

Anyone who would hold it against FLP for a tranny breaking is crazy. If they didnt warrenty it or gave you alot of grief thats a different story. You had a right to be upset though, you put alot of work into that and sure didnt expect it, but BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE. hahahahahahahah.

Even in NASCAR they break parts when they should not and they spend millions on development. **** just happens sometimes. For what it's worth my FLP5 4L65E has taken everything I've thrown at it and never missed a beat!

i wasnt really upset
just shocked more than anything
and wanted to share my unusual experience

my family and I have some other projects planned in the distant future
that involve a t56 and a th400
and Im definitely sure I will be dealing with FLP again

I talked to Chuck about the other trannys back when I ordered the level 5
I didnt realize he did more than just 60s
damn good prices too

for those interested in the projects ones a 72 shortbed pickup
and the other is a 40 chevrolet 2 door coupe

72s done just waiting on the 400 to go out LOL
its been put through hell

the 40 was given to me here recently
bodys near perfect on the 40
except a very very little rust at the rear wheel openings
where the tires rubbed when the rear suspension broke

Me and my dad got started on it back in the mid 80s
restoring it
and got the frame looking better than my truck

we welded in a mustang 2(I think thats what it was) front suspension/brake setup
12 bolt rear end
then had to stop due to money
so its sit in the basement for a while

my plans for it are
gen 3 type smallblock ...
probably lq9
cammed big of course
t56... for fun and those long cruises to gattlinburg
interior
billet wheels
and the best of all
candy apple red over gold

Ill get started on this after I finish my truck
Ill also try to post some now pics of it if anyones interested

were still trying to figure out exactly what happened
so it may not have been the tranny

by the way the tranny acted it seemed like it would for sure take everything
I could throw at it

Ill use this post as an opportunity to quote Chuck in the other thread
I deleted
maybe this can help clarify it a little

FLP has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - FLP
5 issues - in the Truck V8 Performance forum of LS1TECH.

Here is the message that has just been posted:

Well, By what you saw here I would have to say that the pump has broken
lugs, thus why you have no gears. Now we have to find out why you had
to use washers to space the converter?? I already have a call into PI
and they are waiting for the converter to get there so they can check
the build height.
I'm sure they will correct anything if there was a mistake and usually
they will help me with any trans repairs if it was there fault. You
should never have to use washers with one of these converters, IMO at
least from my experience.
I'm sure will find out soon what happened here when I get the trans
back and I here from PI. Until then will get you back on the road ASAP.

Chuck
