Away for two weeks, started my 2003 GM and the Gauges do not work. Everything else in fine.

Whats the best bet.....fuse?

Yea, I'd check the fuses first, hopefully it's something simple. If a fuse is blown, something made it blow, like a short to ground.

actually your best bet is to take it back to the dealer.............

Most likely it is the cluster. We have replaced a bunch of 03 and up instrument clusters
for various problems.

if it is just the speedo...then this is a well documented issue...dealer will fix.

Same thing happened to me on my '03 GMC 2500HD, Duramax. The gauges would go off then back on many miles later on their own. I checked all fuses......not that simple. For some reason, in a fit of frustration, I smacked the top of the dash and they came back on. That worked for a while, then didn't. I took the cluster out (simple removal), unplugged the connector and vacuumed every bit of dirt out. Reinstalled and it worked! We'll see for how long. My local dealer thought it was a fuse and didn't offer anything else as a solution although I'm sure they've seen this before. Went to my trusty pro shop and he knew all about it. Said it would cost me $500-600 to fix if he did the whole thing. The gauge cluster repair is available from rebuild shops (google it) and replacement is a snap. The rebuilder below will fix your cluster and retains the mileage in it. Used/Rebuilt clusters prices vary with the problem, call them first.

The same thing just happened on my NNBS truck I just bought. It is a 1973 Chevy, and the speedo stopped working. I crawled under it, and the speedo cable was unscrewed from the side of the 3 speed automatic. I really like this truck. I think this cab style is here to stay!! Wait a minute... how old is this thread?
