Crank Question
I was wondering how much horsepower you can put thru a stock crankshaft before it fails (breaks). I have a friend going to a tech school for auto mechanics that says his instructor is telling him that any car or truck with more than 450hp, boosted or all motor, will run into crank problems. Is there any truth behind this or is it BS?

Not in the LS based engine and there 6 bolt mains. There are stock cranks that have held well over 800hp. I'm looking for around 600/600 at the wheel with my new set with a stock crank.

maybe in an old rocket 350 or something similar but not the newer 350's and especially in the ls motors!!
|
i've heard the ls motors are safe for many miles with 550hp
|
i thought there was some guys over on ls1tech with 1000hp

Yeah i figured that using a stock crank in a hi hp application was ok. I actually have a friend thats making 700whp in his turbo integra and he still used the stock crank. I just needed some proof to prove his teachers theory wrong.

good luck with that..they think they know it all

Haha! Yeah your right about that, but still, you shouldnt be telling a class that a crank will have problems with more than 450hp if many people have shot way past that amount with no problems.
