Default crank cam alignment issue

Ok, iv done hundreds of cam swaps so I kmow how to do these, but here is my problem. I undid all the rockers, pulled the cam, and installed a new one. WELL... when going to line up timing marks , I realized my crank was missing the timing dot.. So I stuck my finger in the spark plug hole an turned till I got compression, stuck a tiny wood stick in there till I felt the piston come all the way up an start to fall back down, turned it counter till it I felt the stick come back up an stop... so here is my question. How do I know if that is my compression stroke or exhaust? My understanding is that the cam dictates both. Any ways. I tightened down just the driver side rockers an turned the motor over 360* nothing hit, nothing stopped suddenly. Would yall say that's good? or can it be 180* out? I feel like im just over thinking all of this an im probably fine the way it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With number 1 at TDC and the cam "straight up" you're fine
