I think for a naturally asperated setup his 4.10 gear is going to be dead on given the correct tire choice. As for compression, I'd say no more than 12.2:1 with the stall you're running if you go with a cam around the size range of what you were looking into. As for cam advice, I agree that the guys from comp are terrible. 5 different calls will get you 5 different answers and they all will range from just above stock to still too damn small. It's one thing to go with a small cam for a daily driver, but for something that is being built for fun, hell no. I'd recomend a cam for you to be around 240/246 on a 112 LSA. This will spin to 6700 with any kind of good heads just fine and still idle at around 800 with some tuning.

I'm thinking about 3800 will be just right. The motor gas to have something to push against. If I went with a higher gear, it would be like it was free wheeling, it wouldn't ever load up real good.

Why bother making our torque up high if you wont multiply it by gear? It makes no sense. Thats the whole reason why HP wins races, you get to use gear!
4.56 gears will also put you at 140 at the top of 3rd with a 7k redline

With the slicks ... top of 3rd only get's 135'ish with 4.10's, 123 with 4.56's.
I think I'll stick with the 4.10.
With 4.56's it will take me 3000 rpms to run 80, unacceptable since I have a heavy foot. With 4.10's, it will take 2600rpms to hit 80.

N/A has alot to do with it. That's a whole different set of number calculation I won't go into, but basicly the engine's actual volumetric efficiency has a big effect on gearing.
If he's running a 265/70/16 tire, he's running too much tire. Keep in mind that propper tire choice isn't what looks good on the truck or what you have around. You can gear according to the tire you're using, but that doesn't make it the correct tire.
