comp push rods 7.450 to big for 224 cam???
 

looking to go to a bit longer push rod..
I have 7.400 in the motor now, and would like to get a little longer push rod, as I think I have lifters that dont have enough preload on them..
checked into some 7.425 and they dont seem to make them in the magnum series

I can get a set of brand new 7.450 for $99.99 right now, and will probably pick them up today
anybody have any input before i go get them???????

Use the pushrod calculator in the internal section of tech. If i remember right, the TR cams are a little shorter than 7.400. Nothing to make a difference. Do you have your heads milled? Im using a 7.400 with .045" milled off the head and a 1.42 base circle and it seems to be working well so far.

I was running 7.450 with the same cam but with stock heads. Your base circle is waaay bigger than mine so i would think 7.4 would be right on the money.

actually I think it's smaller if I read the other posts right, but I am having a hard time finding the base circle of my cam..

I calculated a 220 for a guy and it was like a 1.48 but not positive. If im not mistaken, a 7.400 is dead on. I wouldnt go much more than a 7.425.

i'm running 7.4" with my tr220 if that helps.

ok guys..
I bought some 7.450 comp Magnum push rods today..

length diffrence is a bought an 1/8 of an inch.. if that..maybe less...

I installed 4 of them on the drivers side, and rigged the motor so it could be started and ran..
before I put the rockers back on I marked the head of the valve where the rocker makes contact with a marker covering the whole top of the valve stem head..
then I started the motor, and took a look...
the 4 7.450 had oil coming from them about 15-20 seconds before the 7.400 did..
.....interesting......
I stopped the motor and took off the rockers...
inspected the 4 with the 7.450 rods in them, and noticed that they keep the contact of the rocker in the middle of the head of the valve stem..
inspected the rockers with the 7.400 rods in the , and noticed that they are a bit to the exhuast side of the motor, not by much but more so than the 7.450 are....(which indicates a short puch rod)

also the magnified ticking of the motor because of the LT headers is not as noticeable..
the sewing machine is back, but I would rather here that than the tick tick tick, that was there.. it always sounded like an exhaust leak,,

take this how you want to guys, but I think I may have found my problem..
I will know more as I put more miles on it..:)
