Commifornia 5.3 Smog Legal Cam Advice
Id like to get your guys opinions on some of the cams I have picked out. First off the truck is a 99 RCSB with the 5.3 in it. I have a yank 2600 stall converter I'll be putting in shortly. I'm looking to keep it a fairly mild set up but am looking to wake the truck up some while keeping it SMOG LEGAL. I'm looking to run the Texas Speed Stage 3 cam but am unsure which lobe separation I should go with. I've heard less overlap is better but I heard a tighter lobe separation is harder to tune and will have more lope to it. Has anyone in CA run this cam and passed the sniffer?
TSP stage 3 low lift 216/220 .550 lift - 114 LSA (-10 degrees overlap) - 113 LSA (-8 degrees overlap) - 112 LSA (-6 degrees overlap) |
I'm also looking at the GM Performance hot cam part # 88958753
219/228 .525/.525 Lift on a 112 LSA (-1.5 overlap) |
I have heard of people clearing smog with the TSP 224r on a 114 in the LS1 and 5.3 motor. That would be -4 degrees of overlap.

Good to know! Thank you!

I have heard the opposite, you want more negative overlap in order to pass smog. I know my comp 212/218 low lift passed in Oceanside when I was still stationed in Camp Pendleton. I used to know of a formula to determine overlap, but I forgot what it was and lost the paper I had it written on long ago.

Overlap is calculated as: Intake duration 212 + Exhaust duration 218 = 430 430 / 2 = 215 112 + 112 = 224 (LSA+LSA) 215 - 224 = -9 degrees of overlap |
