I just changed the plugs in my oil-burning 2002 8.1 at 55,000 miles.Didnt notice any difference in performance. The plugs did have a white chalky crust on them.I say change the plugs only, your wires will be fine to at least 125-150k.

I will not even dignify this with a response...
Newer Pt tipped plugs seem to last fat longer than the copper ones, I suppose I will just leave those in. If I feel like it I may do some MSD wires and NGK plugs.
Thanks all.
Change plugs and wires both you'll feel the difference.Or are you one of those guys that changes oil every 7500 miles?

I was kidding about the oil changes,if you are posting on this forum you are probably light years ahead of the average guy at maintaining your truck.I just can't stand to see a thread just sit there so I pushed a hot button.Sorry about that HitmanX I was kidding.

Oh okay man, I guess we had a misunderstanding. Sorry about that.
I was wondering what the hell I said/did that would cause some animosity between us. I don't need anyone on my bad side.
I usually change the oil 3500-5000mi, really depends on my driving habits and if I am running syn or dino. If I go on road trips I usually change the oil with more miles on it than with mainly city commuting.
Either way, I am gonna tune my truck next (timing, shift points, and TqMgt) before anything else.

Go iridium. I change to iridium from stock, then every 30,000 miles. I don't care what anyone says, I can see wear on the tips of the plugs, by the roundness of the tips. New plugs got them some nice sharp 90degree angles. At 30,000 miles, there is just a small hint at rounding out of the tips! I like the Denso ones the most!

I went ith NGK's simply for the reason that they are proven with the trucks. They are also cheap. For $20 a set or less, yoy can change them every 10k if you want. But I change mine every 30k fyi.

My truck came with Denso Platinums, not Delco's, I've heard that the Denso's are very similar to NGK's. I've pulled and looked at all of them and they still look OK with 53K on them. I've tried Autolite 605 copper plugs and Champion Truck plugs and found no real difference. I have yet to try the NGK's though, they may be next.
