can I do away with the fuel evap system?

I bought the new edelbrock ls xt intake and I have no idea what to do with the evap system any ideas? What are you guys doing with the victor jr intakes?

I believe that there is one valve that you must retain or you will have problems with the pump kicking off when trying to fuel the gas tank (might be the ORVR or OCVR valve or something like that...once again my memory is foggy and I can only remember bits and pieces :bang: )

Yes you can. Just vent your tank to the atmosphere. I have info bookmarked at home I'll send you

There you go, that should allow you to fuel w/o the pump kicking off.

You don't need your evap equipment for state visual inspection?

cool so I can just mount the pump and let it go in the atmosphere? I would love the info you got at home

It wouldnt be hard to plumb the EVAP by tapping a hole into the intake, or by t-ing an already existing vacuum source.

having the EVAP purge hooked up or not hooked up will have ZERO effect on filling at the pumps.

venting the EVAP to the atmosphere can result in a gas smell from your truck.

I personally would just hook up the EVAP purge solenoid and keep ito operational. Just my opinion.

Not the purge solenoid, but there are other valves involved that will cause the pump to kick back if not properly routed or vented, we've had this problem on both Toyota and Lexus, and the evap system is pretty much identical to what GM uses IIRC. There's a rollover valve I believe, and and overfill check valve that may cause issues...can't picture the whole sytem in my head at the moment though....

*EDIT* I'm referring to removing the entire system though, including the canister, I believe that is where the problem will arise. I agree though that I would just hook up the purge and keep it operational also...

so hook it up and dont worry about running a hose to it. Just plug in the sensor and hide it?

dirt track racer 81 Apr 13, 2009 07:01 PM

My evap hose got burnt in a fire... I have NO EVAP

I'd hook it up the way that Hog mentioned, either plumb it up or t it elsewhere. If you're dead set against that, try plugging the hose from the tank to the purge valve and tune out the codes and monitors that are involved. I'm pretty sure that the PCM monitors purge valve operation by looking at the O2 sensors, as they will read a little richer when the purge valve operates. (it also looks for opens and shorts electronically). I don't think that just plugging the purge supply hose will create fueling issues, but completely deleting the canister might...
