Default cammed 4.8 question

ok, tomorrow I will hopefully order a TCI 3000 stall, and other tranny goodies.

Next will be the cam. 01Thunder as obviously put a nice size cam in his 4.8 and loves it. I was originally going to go with thunder racing's 220/220 114lsa cam.. but now I wanna try the 224 that 01thunder has installed.

Ok, this is where my question is.. which LSA should I get?
I will have a 3000 stall, I have 4.10 gears.. and also spray a 125 wet shot. I also have access to tuning so that is not a issue.

So far this is the information I have gathered.

Pros of 112 LSA:
-Power band kept down a couple hundred RPMS lower than the 114LSA
-Ramp rates are faster during midrange
-Sick *** idle thats cool

Pros of 114 LSA:
-Power band is spread more across the charts, and after peak HP slowly decreases in power
-Better idle, not as lumpy
-Less valve overlap = good for nitrous

So basically what I am asking is will there be much of a difference in power between the two on the spray? Will the idle be much different? And on motor which one will perform better.

The way I am conceiving it so far is that the 112 LSA will be a smudge better on motor. And the 114 LSA will be a smudge better on nitrous.

Thanks again!

Default I've been putting some thought to this question too

I also want a cam for my 4.8, but am not completely sure which i want as far as LSA. I'm gonna have to watch this thread and see who chimes in since i'm no cam expert. I'm also wandering which LSA is easier to tune for. I have edit, but don't trust my tuning skills and I don't know of anyone around here that "specializes" in dyno tunning using LS1 Edit.

Deckhand mind if i ask how much your TCI stall cost?

Supposively 114lsa is easiest to tune for

The cheapest I found a TCI 3000 stall is for $454 or so at www.summitracing.com

i thought if you were going to spray it needed a wider lsa. but heck who knows. maybe bigtex can answer this better.

deck, you spray 100 shot right? if so, when talking about Nitrous/LSA the difference between the 112 and 114 are gonna be very minimal from what i hear.

But, a wider lsa (114 is wider, 112 would be tighter) is better for nitrous. Less overlap will keep the nitrous charge in the intake valve without any spilling over into the exhaust side. This keeps the charge in there and lets more explode, giving you more power.

Yeah I would have to agree with Sportside in saying that it would be to little to make a huge difference I would also runa split duration it won't affect your power without the juice and it will help you a lot on the Gas. I would think a 222/226 or a 224/228. JMO though you have to do what you and what you think is going to work! Good luck! 01 thunders truck did sound good when we were finished with it and if you are running a small shot a single patteren cam will work fine 100-125 and down any more and the split patteren I mentioned will net better performance.

thanks for the advice, thunder racing has a 224/227 cam that I might try.

thanks again,
joseph.
