I installed my Walbro 255 about 2.5 weeks / 500 miles ago and in a pinch I bought some generic 5/16 fuel line from NAPA auto parts to connect the pump. It was like $1.50/ft, nothing special. I figured it would work since the inside of the hose was the same material as the outside, or so it seemed at the time. There was no visible difference.

Nevertheless, I'm worried the line might deteriorate and blow. How many of you have used generic fuel line and not had or had problems?

Wow, 1.50 a foot? I used some "generic" Dayco line at $30 a foot and it was ****. Switched to Gates and its good to go. What brand did you get?

What is the part number on your bill? I'll be able to tell you if it's submersible.

I called the NAPA where I got it and he said it's Gates H357, no hits on google. But then he told me the price and it was like $5/ft, but I paid the normal fuel line price which was $1.xx/ft... I wish I kept the receipt or the extra fuel line. He said it is submersible in gas because it doesn't say that it isn't...

I figure it would have failed already if it was normal fuel line. It was decently thick stuff.

Okay, H357 is not submersible. Napa has a pdf attachment on the hose you bought, here's a link. Says right on page 2, DO NOT SUBMERSE IN FUEL. http://partimages.genpt.com/partimages/1241841.pdf

Thanks for the info. I found an extra piece of the fuel line I got, and the fuel line that came with the pump. I'm going to submerse them both in fuel and see what happens. Sounds like I need to change the line anyways.

I called NAPA back, the guy I talked to said he used the H357 for his in-tank pumps for years without issues. I told him about that PDF you posted and that it said to not submerse in fuel. I don't think be believed me. He looked up H209 but it only came in 30' lengths and I'd have to buy all of it, not just a foot.
