Cam suggestion from Futral, any opinions?
 
I emailed futral for a cam suggestion. This was the response.

Dan,
We have a 210\214 -113 cam that will work perfect in your application.Still have lowend power and make good power to 6000 RPM in a 6.0l.. It will idle good and be good on gas mailage.

The MTI C1 cam 222-222 582-582 on a 112+4 works great in 6.0 truck.
Drives like stock with tuning and makes lots of power everywhere.It
only has a hint of lope at 800-850 rpm idle.

It is my understanding that the Whipple needs to be accounted for when deciding on a cam. Any thoughts on that? What should I really expect with a cam?

That is correct. From my understanding you want a fairly wide LSA like 114* and a dual pattern. This is to help with boost bleed off apparently. I don't know any specifics on that aspect how it helps. LSA helps with vac, idle, and powerband peaks also

That is the one he suggested to me first till I told him I wanted something a little bigger. We then came up with my grind.. 214/216 .547/.556 113+4. I am suprised he didnt recomend something around a 218/224 .56x 114 for a blown 6.0???

One thing you have to think about 2500 HD 4X4,you need to keep the lowend TQ up to get this big truck moving,then once the blower comes in it will make the midrange\topend power even with a small cam.

His main goal was lowend\midrange TQ and good idle\drivabilty.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Will I notice a big difference in power and overall performance if I decide to get the cam? I mean, I don't want to spend all of the money to find out It gave me 10hp. Also, what else is involved in a cam swap? i.e. what else do i need to purchase? I plan to upgrade to 8.1 marine injectors at the same time.

Ssshhhh, don't tell the wife.

if its boosted or an LS1 based call CM
if its both... you should have called them already

and to answer the question:
Larger LSA means less overlap. you dont need overlap in FI cars because they are already under such high pressures that they will evacuate exhuast gases with just the valve opening. they dont need much help from the intake side to "force out" the exhuast. The whole exhuast scavaging thing.

I would go with the Futral recomendation after all that is a heavy 4x4 Truck that need alot of torque to get it going! That cam should pick up alot more than 10hp.
