Cam install question for first timer
 

Building my lq9 and I realized after I tightened all the rockers it looks like when the lifters tightened on the loves of the cam it kicked over a tooth on the timig dots. Is that normal? Is that from just how the lobes of the cam are? This is my first time doing engine work so I'd just like some reasurence or to know if I gotta tear it all apart again.

I can't say this with 100% certainty, but as long as you had it dot to dot from cam gear to crank gear with chain installed and cam gear tightened down. I don't see the rockers/pushrods/lifters being able to mess that up.

So if you did rocker/pushrod/lifter torque down after finalizing the timing chain (cam gear torqued down with chain on it and crank), you should be fine.

when installing the rockers and torquing the bolts, the lifter MUST be on the base circle for that particular cylinder. It sounds like you didn't do that, and the force from the valve spring made the cam turn as you tightened down the rocker.

did you turn the engine over again to make sure the timing marks are still aligned?

if it was dot to dot with the timing chain on and cam gear torqued down then its fine.
You could always pop off the front cover and turn the motor over to make sure it lines back up dot to dot.
Also slack in the timing chain could make it not line up dot to dot

fixxed it took it all apart a re-did everything. and its mint rotated the ingine twice and its still dot to dot, i think one of my buddies helping screwed it up

I'll keep my eye out when I have my buddies help me with my cam swap lol... Whenever I get to it that is. Been hoping to find a good used one on here
