Default Cam 5.7 dd truck

Im building an iron 5.7 from a 5.3 block. It's going in a 2001 GMC ext cab. I have a set of 243's and long tube headers. I will be driving this truck approx. 100 miles a day. What kind of cam can I run without wearing out springs premature? I'll put a 3200 stall in if I need to.

I've got a 5.7 in my 2005 Silverado, since I drive over 100 miles a day my concerns were similar to yours. When it came to the cam I decided to go conservative and go with the LS6 cam, with 243 heads it made 349hp to the wheels on stock manifolds and intake box.

I think for a 5.7, a TSP220 would be a fairly conservative cam choice.

I need to add I will be pulling my camaro to the track with it. This makes me lean towards the LS6. Nice numbers TXS...

I was impressed with the hp it put down, its running on a mail order tune....curious to see if cleaning up the tune will improve the numbers.

I run the off the shelf comp 216/220 low lift in my ls1 with about 30k miles on it so far.

Pulled my 6klb camper to tx and back (1100 miles each way) and the motor has a total of 8 trips to tx and i just recentlly drove it to las vegas.

I run stock ls9 springs and the factory pushrods from the ls1 motor (99 block) and it hasnt missed a beat.

Last time i was on the dyno i put down 36Xrwhp/35Xrwtq untuned for the head change (went from 853 to 243) and ive since added a ported tbss intake and 4"cai but havent ben back on the rollers.

Id say go with atleast the 212/218 or get an isky 215/215

I had a lunati 216/218 cam in my first ls1 it was a great cam but when the motor went out i bought a new block and went with a tsp torquer v2 232/234 cam. Daily drive it 50 miles round trip to work and back. So far i really love it but towing is something i will never do with my setup

Yea, I had the torquer v2, 113 lsa in my camaro when it had an LS1 in it. Loved it. Just not what I'm looking for in a tow vehicle.

The lunati 216/218 made 345rwhp on my old setup it would have been a great tow cam as it had lots of low end torque
