Built 6.0- How Much Nitrous?
This Winter I'm looking to build a 6.0 to drop into my tahoe. I would like to do a slight overbore to bring the engine back to new and maybe a little milling of the heads. Mainly though, i want it to be a nitrous motor. If I build a 6.0 With a Forged steel crank (close to stock stroke) and forged rods and pistons, how much nitrous could i spray? any other suggestions for an engine like this? this is going to be a daily driver so good fuel mileage is a must. I just want to build a docile street motor with the ability to run big nitrous at the track.

it will handle how much you build it for simply put.... forged pistons/rods are a must with big amounts of spray... tuning needs to be spot on.

I would keep the stock crank in it, get some h-beam rods, and nitrous pistons from whatever manufacturer you like. Get a good set of rings and gap them loose for nitrous. And if you want to spray bigger than 200 shot then a DP system is almost mandatory with these motors.

Sorry, DP system? what kind of tuning will be necessary to run say a 250 shot. i have a relible dyno shop that does my tuning nw for a 125 shot and i will buying HP tuners to go wih it. anything else need to be done besides removing enough timing for that size shot. also, i know the tranny and DS will need to be replaced but what about the rear. right now i have the factory housing ns 30 spline axels with a eaton posi, will this hold up?

DP= direct port. It'll get an equal amount of fuel and nitrous to each cylinder.
200 shot on stock bottom end is fairly safe IMO as long as you have the tune spot on. It wouldn't take much detonation with that much nitrous to pop a piston. The rear end will be plenty strong as is. Throw a shift kit in the tranny and it should last a good long while. |
sounds good, but i definatelty wanna change the tranny. anybody know a good shop where i can have the engine built somewhere near southern NH?

For high Nitrous set-ups is it better to have a lower compression or is compression not as important as in boost applications?
