BTR stage 4 truck cam and turbo
Like the title says I have a BTR stage 4 truck cam in my 2000 rcsb. Wanting to go turbo. No more than 10 psi on 91 octane. Also running a tci 3500 stall. Can I keep the cam and make good power? Or is this cam completely out of the question? Cam specs are 224/230 .553/.547 111+2. Thanks for any input.

Do it, it will work just fine.
You could probably toss 15-20lbs at it and make 800+hp with that cam and the right turbo, hell even more is likely possible if you really want to push things. |
Thank you for the quick reply. Out of all the research I did it seemed this cam would be fine. After contacting the tech department at Brian Tooley Racing I was told it would not be a suitable cam for boost. Thank you for your advice. I was trying to avoid another cam swap. I was going the cheaper turbo route with an ON3 kit. Trying to keep the cost to a minimum. If you have an opinion on the ON3 kit I would love to hear it if you have any experience.

It's cheap for a reason, the turbos work good for smaller power levels like you are after the the fit and finish on some of the kits isn't the best. Some needed extra work to make things fit and it seems most upgrade the waste gate as well to a better unit.
I'd prefer a trick or kb racing manifold/hotside myself, then you could make your own cold side then buy the turbo/fuel pump/injectors/map sensor all seperate. Or just buy a complete kit and get the extra stuff yourself. |
OK cool. Thanks for the advice. I'll do some more research and see what I'm going to choose. I recently installed a 255 pump from High Flow Fuel. Do you think this will be enough?

in a 5.3 its gonna be doggy... but it will work. Once the turbo ignites and youre rolling itll be OK though. If it was me I'd swap cams...

If the turbo is sized correctly it shouldn't be much of a problem in my eyes. If it spools right away with minimal throttle it should be alright.
My other thoughts is why not just try it first and see how it runs, not enough people experiment enough with perhaps "odd" combo's. Going against the grain could be fun and swapping the cam later on if need be won't that big of a problem. |

Turbo dont care about your cam, its going to make power either way. Yea you could get a better suited cam that drives better and makes more power, but thats not saying the current one wont work just fine.
