Attn: Duramax Owners.....

I just purchased '03 Duramax HD, Crewcab, Auto.
What is the best chip to go on this truck? On this forum yall talk about the juicebox... has anyone ever tried the Banks Six Gun w/ Speed Loader? I looked on the backside of the edgebox and it had Gayle Banks name on it... ????
About exhaust -- does the down pipe have to be changed? Or just muffler and tailpipe? Does it make a big difference?
I was reading that Banks has a Wastegate Actuator - it's supposed to give you more mid-range... any comments? Or do you just unhook the factory one?
Lot of questions... need answers. I would appreciate any feedback from Duramax owners. Thanks!

hands down the edge juice is the best programer. not cheap but you get the most power. what model depends on how much power you want. search - there are a few GREAT threads on power the juice gives ya. we dynoed 403 rwhp and 850 rwtq on a mustang dyno on stock everything but the hot juice with attitude. also in cab adjustability and monitoring. exhaust wont hold you back untill you want over 400 rwhp. stock exhaust and intake tubing are great stock.

The juice is tough to beat. I run the 125 hp juice with the attitude monitor on my truck, and it's really slick.
I have the kennedy diesel 4 inch exhaust. It replaces the downpipe, muffler and tailpipe.

I'm not a Dmax owner yet...I should be ordering mine soon if all goes well. Anyway...
First, I'd change your fuel filter if you haven't already. I'd also check out the rest of the fluids while you're at it. Preventative maintainence.
I was reading about that Banks box and it's supposed to be a very conservative setup. Not that it's bad by anymeans, but that Edge is a far more hardcore box power wise. My first box will be an Edge Hot OJ then a Quad 215 after I get a built tranny.
The Edge can, does, and will smoke the stock torque converter in the higher output levels. A TransGo kit and a stout converter should be able to hold the Edge in 125hp level. After that you'll start slipping clutch packs in the Allison. Just be ready for that. Get the TransGo from that Oregon Tranny place on ebay and the converter from Suncoast. If it was me...I'd go ahead and replace the C2 and C3 clutch packs while you got the tranny out. Labor isn't going to be too much more.
Stock exhaust is like 3.5", not really a restriction. You could just weld in a muffler (Dynomax or Magnaflow) for pretty cheap. That'll drop your EGTs and may free up a tad of power as well as the onset of boost.
Also you could hack up the stock air intake for more flow or there's a plethora of intakes for the LB7 motor...so just take your pick on those.
That should get you to run mid 14s to high 13s depending on if you get a converter or not.

I appreciate all of your replys. I just figured that since Gayle Banks been around since 1958 and has the world's fastest diesel truck it might be the way to go. Banks claims w/ the Six Gun and Speed Loader you get 155hp and 385lb of torque. Just wondering if anyone has tried a Banks chip in their truck.
Thanks!
Thanks!

It's under much debate on The Diesel Place forums, it's had less than stellar results. It's a good item, just not up to par.

For $40, I had a good muffler shop I frequent cut the stock muffler off my brother's '03 Duramax and weld on some good straight-pipe. It picked up power, lowered EGT's, and made it sound awesome. It's loud under throttle, but quiets up a lot just cruising.

My dad just got edge 90 w/o the attitude monitor, and its bad ***!!He has a 04 3500 cc LB LB7 D/A.
