Another electric fan ?

I heisted some electric fans of my father he had laying around. They are Flex a lite 310s. They are dual 10" in a built on shroud. On Flex a lite 12" duals they are supposed to be good for 2500 cfms of air so I would imagine these to be 1800-2000 cfms, is this enough for a truck that often sees traffic in houston? Also I think I will wire them to a key on and let them run all the time so I don't have to fool with thermo switches and I can turn them on in the lanes at the strip, this seem like a good idea? I thought about a toggle switch but I would just forget to turn it on most of the time. These fans were $180 new and probably only have 20-30 miles on em.

Flex-A-Lite Website

Some of the others guys need to chime in, but I don't think 1800CFM is near enough flow to keep a healthy V-8 cool. It may just be me, but with aluminum heads I want to be SURE the cooling system is more than adequate. My LT-1 fans may only flow 1500CFM (I have no idea how much they do flow), but I figured if the were good enough to keep a 5.7 in a Z-28 with basically no grill cool that they would keep a truck with a big open grill cool enough.

My $.02

The single fan that comes with the ATI Procharger kit I have is rated for 2000cfm. That is the bare minumum I would even think about in a mild climate. If you regularly see temps. in the 90-100° and sit in traffic your definately going to need more than 1800-2000cfm.

It gets scary when your temp. climbs above 230°.

You guys really think the stock 18" fan with a weak clutch pulls 4000 cfm??? I seriously doubt it. Not saying that you can ever have too much air flow, but do you REALLY need 4000 cfm? Yeah if I was pulling a heavy trailer or driving a motorhome maybe but.... I will probably try em anyway and if it gets hot, HYDE is gonna cut me a KILLER deal on some LS1 fans!

Hey Hyde, I got a bunch of little tricks I can do to busas, some you will feel, some you won't. Let me know what he wants. He have a PCII? What pipe? Let me know. I am probably gonna try to put the fans on sunday. I will start early in the morning that way if the biatch over heats I have time to put the stock fan back on. LOL. Where is the hook up on LS1 fans? I am calling some of my car buddies tomorrow, see if I can scam a set cheap. Also came across a deal on some tires today, 275/55R16s, new $99 each. Thinking of putting off the HPP3 to get the 2.5" shorter tires to give me some gear. What you think?

Re: Another electric fan ?

I dont know the CFMs of the LS1/LT1 fans but they are dual 12". They definately pull more than the stock clutch fan though. I can put my hand 2-3" in front of the grill and feel the air being pulled in.
