Alternator Wire Mod?
There was a post awhile back about this. Something about upgrading an alternator cable to help it out with dimming lights, etc. What is every step in this? What are the parts and how long should it take? I don't want to start and screw something up. My lights are flickering pretty bad at idle and when the fans kick in when the A/C is on.
I've only got 2 infinity 12" subs w/ a 600 watt amp and FAL electric fans/nelson fan harness. I upgraded from a 105A alt. to a 130A alt. when I had the fans installed about 3-4 years ago.
Any help on this project is appreciated! Thanks!

It is called the Big 3. Essentially You keep stock wiring and you add three new wires of bigger guage. Use at least 4 guage. Most will use 2 oe 0 guage wire. Even welding wire will work.
First two are grounds.
First one is adding another wire from your negative terminal on the battery to the chassis.
Second is another ground from the engine block to chassis.
Third is the power wire from the positive battery post to the alternator.
After adding, not replacing, these three you will have a better electrical system. You will notice less dimming if any, and even smoother idle sometimes or the truck will run better.
If you search several forums for "big 3" you will find pictures of how they ran it.
First two are grounds.

last year i only upgraded the alt wire itself nothing else and seen great results. and i have all the typical draws on the system as others do. easiest and most effiective way is just use a larger wire from the alt to the red box. all i did last year and didnt have any issues

adding instead of replacing makes it better because the resistance is lower...the current has two pathways or ,effectively, one larger one.
