8100 cam change

New member here. Need some info about the 8.1 vortec. Was wondering about changing the cam in this motor. Need to pull intake for the lifters? is it like the LS1's with lifter keepers? Also is there a need to drop the oil pan for timing cover? Is there a need of new roller lifters? My Alldata does not give much info on this.

:drive:

Yes you will have to pull the intake. No it's not like the LS1's, it is same as the older big blocks. You should be able to remove the timing cover without dropping the oil pan(at least I was able to do that). Stock lifters will be fine. I gained 30 rwhp, and 50rwftlbs with the comp 270 cam and 1.8 roller rockers. GOOD LUCK!

TieRod What valve covers did you use? Did you modify the PCM? How is the idle?

Tom Byrne might be able to help you out a bit here. He's running a mild cam in his 8.1.

Look for TByrne Motorsports on the right. :)

You won't have to change the valvecovers unless you go with a set of roller rocker arms. Spacers will give you enough clearence to go over them. Upgrading the PCM will help fine tune the combo and provide you with more power.

I used AS&M spacers on the valve covers. The idle has nice lope to it & I have a HPPIII programer. I order ls1-edit for it but #5 cyl gave up 2days before I got the program. After spraying it with 200HP last 2 years it's bound to happen.
