6.0L with Allison Transmission?

I have a bet going on with a friend, and he claims that he knows a fellow who just bought a brand new truck, either a heavy-half(1500HD) or a 3/4 ton(2500HD) truck that came with a 6.0L gaspot and an allison transmission.

Do they exist? Does anyone have one?

Thank You
Justin

Yes the Alison 6 speed is an option for 06 also I beleave that there is a 4L85E option as well. Not sure but that is what I think that I remember reading

screamingjimmy 08-09-2005 08:49 PM

thank you
Justin

Scrapin'4.8 08-09-2005 08:54 PM

I think it might be a 5-speed

gobblergetter 08-09-2005 08:54 PM

hd 1500

I am pretty sure my 1500 hd has a alison in it.

OUT2WIN 08-09-2005 08:56 PM

My dads HD doesnt have the allison and its the 6.0L

screamingjimmy 08-09-2005 08:59 PM

I always figured that the 1500HD with the 6.0L had a 4L80E.

SIERRA ON FIRE 08-09-2005 10:39 PM

performance wise, i wonder if an allison (in a 6L) would be better than a 80e?

NoChrome 08-09-2005 10:48 PM

I got an 80e behind my 6.0

*Edit, According to the GM website the allison is not available with the 6.0.

zippy 08-09-2005 11:12 PM

the allison only comes behind the 6.6L and the 8.1L. does not come behind the 6.0L. the 6.0L uses 4L65E's in half ton trucks and 4L80E's in 3/4 ton trucks including the 1500HD which is just a 3/4 badged as a 1500 series for marketing purposes.

The Allison is only available behind the Duramax or the 8.1L Vortec. Those engines are available only in 2500 chassis.

There is no Diesel or bigblock half-ton configuration.

Also, all Duramaxes with automatic transmission will be the Allison 1000

All 8.1s with autos will have the Allison 1000 except the 2500 Chevy Suburban or Yukon XL with the 8.1 or any 2500 Avalanche which get the 4L85-E.

All Allison 1000 in 2005 model year and prior in these trucks are 5-speed. All Allison 1000's in them for 2006 are 6-speed.

Someone I know was so sure his 2500 Suburban with the 8.1 had an Allison that I had to sit there and wait while he called the idiot dealer to find someone to verify it. (That took 3 phones calls and 10 minutes of hold time, eventually we got "4L80-E". Idiots...) He had bet me a sandwich and I bet him my LIFE and he still didn't believe me.

any body know if the allison will bolt up to a 6.0? or if sombody makes a bell housing to mate them?

TieRod 08-11-2005 05:04 PM

A 6.0 will bolt right to a Ally. But I would not wast my time with it. The Ally will suck to much power for a 6.0 to deal with. And as Parish has shown a 4L80E will hold anything that a 6.0 can make.
I might have to drop my Ally for a 4L80E.

Thats what I was thinkin to it is cast right on the side 4L80-E

James B. 08-12-2005 12:43 AM

I did not copy/paste that. It was from memory. I'm not an idiot and actually know how to read the side of a transmission, but under the truck that side is covered with a heat shield. I thought it was a thorough and proper response.
