arthursc2, so I may pick up a little WHP over you with my smaller tires (27"), transmission (manual vs auto), and 2wd vs 4x4... wonder how much that would add up to

I would go with the larger cam in this case. Had an '85 S15 Jimmy bone stock smog motor 350 auto except shift kit, shorty's, Comp 274 and a 125 shot ran 7.90. It was sooo much fun!

Im not sure. In 2wd, the t case is straight through, maybe 4 bearings spinning so I cant imagine that 2 vs 4wd is worth but 6-8hp, max. Smaller tires will help for sure. Manual will help for sure.
For the sake of bench racing, my truck is rated at 285 from the factory. Its baseline dyno without a clutch fan and with a K&N intake it made 204whp. So, I am burning 80hp from the flywheel to the wheels.
