5.3 rpm limiter

How high can you safely rev a stock 5.3??

BBLS1 03-07-2004 10:31 PM

i took off the hpp3 off the truck and i still shift at 5700-5900 rpm with no problem.

I'm sure that a 5.3 could be safely revved to 6600-6800rpm,there's no reason that it can't be revved as high as a LS1.That being said I don't think the stock cam makes power much past 5800rpm,so 6200rpm is probably a good redline to use unless you are running a different cam.

Ya i have a cam in my truck and it is edited to 6600 rev limiter.

Why do you want to rev it to the max?

Flyer 03-08-2004 12:00 AM

I'm turning mine to 6300 and it still feels like it's being short shifted. I wouldn't feel comfy running mine passed 6400-6500, mainly cause of the boost.

If you swap out the rod bolts for some nice ARP ones, I've been told that 7000 should be OK.

The stock cam should be shifted around 5900 tops though, it starts taking a dive quickly after 5700.

Im going for a centrifugal S/C so the higher I can rev the longer it is under boost, right?? Maybe I'll do a cam also. I dont think I would go over 6200 though. Thanks alot everyone

You should be good with that.

If you want to spin it that high .. you will have to get a new came. Even under boost the factory cam still nose dives hard right around 5700.

Hey guys, you think as we reach around 100,000 miles on these new motors that we should watch how we rev them? I have 95,000 on mine and was just wondering how much longer could I expect out of it. I don't know if these parts wear or weaken over time.

With that many miles, simply change out the springs, & check the pushrods for straightness, & you should be good. Better yet, swap in a Z06 cam & springs, you'll be good to go for many more miles after that.
